Joel Matthew Hicks Charged With Domestic Violence
Domestic relations can quickly deteriorate into domestic violence. An after-dinner discussion can turn into an argument, and argument into a scuffle and before you know it things can get completely out of hand. What one moment seems like a logical resolution to one or more of life’s daily challenges can in a moment turn passionate and even deadly. Such was the case the other day for a local couple. Etowah County authorities have charged an Altoona man with felony domestic violence involving strangulation. According to Sheriff Todd Entrekin, Joel Matthew Hicks, 27 was arrested on February 11, 2015 and charged with domestic violence by strangulation. Investigators said Hicks was verbally arguing with the victim and then used his hands to strangle the victim by the neck until the victim passed out. After booking into the Etowah County Detention Center Hicks was released on $5,000 bond. A family crisis can be a stressful and heart-wrenching event.
